Youth

Our youth ministry exists to reach non-believing students; to connect with other Christians; to grow in our faith; to honor God with our lives; and to serve Him as part of a ministry team.

Our goal is to help create better teenagers and stronger families by developing completely committed disciples of Jesus Christ.

Summer Mission Projects
This summer our youth have been working on some summer mission projects around our community. Several Fridays throughout the summer students met Pastor Jeff with a sack lunch, a servants heart, and a willing attitude to demonstrate the love of Christ to those in need.  Projects included sorting donated items such as clothes and toys at the Lighthouse Christian Resource Center's sorting and inventorying items for the Kids Closet, where back to school items are distributed to families in need; and a couple of manual labor tasks at the Love INC. office. Love INC. helps many in need in our county and our students were able to do some sprucing up of their office location to be more welcoming and warm as they serve in the Name of Christ.

High School Football and FBCC Youth’s Fifth Quarters!
September means back to school and with Fall brings High School Football. We now have students from several different local schools attending our church and youth ministry, including students who play for the Napavine and W.F. West (Chehalis) football teams. This fall we will have 5th quarter, after game celebrations on September 9 & 23 and October 7 & 21. These dates correspond with Friday night home games for the W. F. West and/ or Napavine teams.
WHAT IS A 5th QUARTER?
The 5th quarter signifies the moments after a football game.  Immediately following Friday Night High School football games, we open the doors of the youth center to any High school students who want to come hang out and have fun in a safe environment.  There is a $5 charge as we will provide warm stuff to drink ( like coffee & hot chocolate) and some sort of snack (maybe pizza, chili fries, nachos or similar items). We often play games in our fellowship hall or set up video game consoles in nearby classrooms.
Near the end of the night one of our students will share their story about how God is working in their lives. The night ends at Midnight.  This will be the 10th consecutive year that FBCC youth ministry has been doing 5th quarters.

Programs

Sunday Small Groups

We have Sunday Small Groups for all 6-12 grade students at 9:15 Sunday mornings. This is the time when we focus on growing in our faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

We currently offer 6 groups, a High School girls group led by Rochelle Woods, a 11th-12th grade boys group lead by Jon Woods, & a 9th-10th grade boys group lead by Jon Ehmke.  These groups focus on studying basic theology and teaching through individual books of the Bible, while discussing how scripture applies to the life of a teen in Lewis County.  Middle School groups are available for each grade level (6th-8th grade) and work from the Student Life Bible Study Curriculum.  Our 6th graders are studying the life of Christ with Ted Schwarz, 7th grade group is discovering Old Testament Characters with David Blomdahl, and our 8th grade group is looking at New Testament Community and the Early Church with Jay Hashagen.

Youth Worship Service

Our youth ministry meeting is on Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 in our youth center. This is an energetic and dynamic opportunity for teens to learn about how their faith in Jesus Christ can help them through the tough times of School. We study how God interacts with us and how the Bible can help guide us through life. We also start building the basics of living a completely committed life for Christ.  Our Wednesday evening meetings are open to all 6th-12th grade students.  We begin with a casual time of hanging out, talking with friends and snacking on goodies or drinking sodas from our soda machine.  We kick off with a time of worship led by our Worship Band and listen to a few announcements about upcoming events.  After Worship, our Middle school students head down to a game room for some active games while our High School students hear the message for the evening.  After about a half-hour, the high school students go to their discussion group time to talk about this evenings' message and their week.  The Middle School students then return to the youth center after games to hear the message for the evening. We wrap it all up with a little free time to hang out while waiting for the parents to return to pick up the students by 8:30.
